However, the vast majority of processes (including many so called schizophrenic reactions) are quickly convergent. The godfather’s rage turns out to be only his repressed, limited anger against misunderstanding and insensitivity.

In my experience, if both client and therapist remain in a preprogrammed doctor-patient framework, their work will not include the godfather and the body will not be deeply touched. If both doctor and patient try to stay “above water,” neither changes much and both secretly wait for the opportunity to be relieved. Living with the body means being one with the Self. The dreambody or personal power is the basis of any relationship with a deep foundation. This is probably why Jung used the pictures of the alchemical opus97 in which both the alchemist and his apprentice bathe together in the same water as a portrayal of human relationship: two fluid people, changing together (Fig. 39).

This fairy tale demonstrates how a story can enrich the theory of body work. The fish, for example, portrays the body’s own tendency to amplify itself in order to nourish the development of personal power. The water god himself is a symbol of all dreambody processes. Hence we must assume that the body nourishes the body if given a chance to do so. The relationship of the fairy tale physician to the spirit of life shows us that prevailing intellectual attitudes cannot grasp the nature of the dreambody. The body is its own explanation, its own illness maker and healer. If conscious attitudes toward irrational behavior become more flexible, the truth of the amplifications around the horned body spirit will be realized: the body has its own mind, the dreambody that organizes life.

These three fairy tales have portrayed the blocked and precarious course of physicians who, because of their preoccupation with healing, did not recognize the total nature of the spirit of life or its drive for individuation. Since this spirit, the dreambody, is related to healing only secondarily, a transformation of a consciousness that focuses only on healing must occur before people can begin to learn from their illnesses and individuate.
